About Heartland Plumbing and Heating
Heartland Plumbing and Heating Ltd. is an Edmonton-area plumbing and HVAC company built on a simple idea: the person running the company should be able to do the work. Owner Michael Kuchmak doesn’t just manage jobs from a desk. He holds a university engineering degree and three separate trade certifications, which means he can personally diagnose, oversee, and quality-check every plumbing, heating, gas, and electrical job that leaves our hands.
Meet Michael Kuchmak(Jaxon) Owner of Heartland Plumbing & Heating Ltd
Jaxon grew up in the Edmonton area and took an academic path before entering the trades. He earned his BSc in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Alberta in 2007, graduating from one of Canada’s top engineering programs. During high school, he was awarded the Alexander Rutherford Scholarship from the Alberta Heritage Scholarship Fund, recognizing strong academic achievement.
After completing his engineering degree, Michael made an uncommon decision. Rather than pursuing a desk-based engineering career, he entered the trades to gain hands-on experience with the systems he’d studied in theory. Over the next 18 years, he earned three separate journeyman certifications:
Journeyman Electrician
Alberta Apprenticeship, Interprovincial Red Seal (Certificate J-04-105441), effective January 2010. Michael completed his electrical apprenticeship first, gaining deep knowledge of residential and commercial wiring, control systems, and electrical diagnostics.
Journeyman Gasfitter (A)
Alberta Apprenticeship, effective April 2012. This certification covers the installation, repair, and maintenance of all gas-fired equipment, including furnaces, boilers, water heaters, fireplaces, and gas piping systems. The Class A designation is the highest gasfitter certification in Alberta.
Journeyperson Plumber
Alberta Skilled Trades, Interprovincial Red Seal (Certificate J-16-207757), effective November 2025. Michael’s most recent certification completed his triple-trade profile, adding formal plumbing credentials to his existing electrical and gas qualifications.
