Tank-less Hot Water Tank Repair & Replacement in Edmonton

A tankless water heater doesn’t store hot water, it heats it the moment you turn on the tap. That means no standby energy loss, no 50-gallon tank taking up floor space, and no running out of hot water halfway through the third shower of the morning. Heartland Plumbing and Heating installs, services, and repairs tankless water heaters across Edmonton, and handles the tank-to-tankless conversions that make the switch possible. As a full-service plumbing and heating company in Edmonton, we take care of the gas, venting, and water piping on every install without subcontracting.

Why Edmontonians Choose Heartland for Tankless Water Heating

owner of heartland plumbing and heating ltd by his work truck, red seal badge and 100% satisfaction guarantee badge

One team for the job

Tankless installation is where a lot of jobs go wrong, and almost always for the same reason: the gas side wasn’t handled properly. A tankless unit can demand 150,000 to 199,000 BTU when it fires, which is often three to four times what the old tank pulled. If the gas line is undersized or the meter can’t keep up, the unit short-cycles, throws error codes, or never reaches its rated output.

You’re not dealing with a franchise

Heartland’s owner, Michael Kuchmak, is a Journeyperson Plumber (Red Seal) and a Journeyman Gasfitter (A), both certified under Alberta Apprenticeship. He also holds a BSc in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Alberta, which matters more on tankless work than on most jobs, sizing a unit correctly means calculating flow rate against Edmonton’s incoming water temperature, not just reading a spec sheet.

The practical benefit: one qualified person sizes the gas line, plans the venting, sets the water piping, and commissions the unit. Nothing gets handed off and nothing gets guessed at. Visit our About Us page to see Jaxon’s full credential profile

Our Tankless Water Heater Services

Heartland handles the full range of residential tankless water tanks work in Edmonton:

Tankless water heater installation

New installs in existing homes, including gas line upsizing, stainless or PVC venting to exterior, condensate drainage, and isolation valve kits for future descaling. We commission every unit and walk you through the controls before we leave.

Tank-to-tankless conversion

The most common request we get. Converting means a new gas supply run in most cases, a new vent penetration, relocated water lines, and a condensate drain. It’s a bigger job than a straight tank swap, and we’ll give you the full scope and cost up front rather than discovering it mid-install.

Tankless repair and error code diagnostics

Ignition failures, flame rod fouling, flow sensor faults, exhaust blockages, and the error codes that come with them. We work on Navien, Rinnai, A.O. Smith, Noritz, and the other brands common in Edmonton homes.

Descaling and annual maintenance

Edmonton’s water leaves scale on the heat exchanger over time, which shows up as reduced output and eventually as fault codes. An annual flush with a descaling solution keeps the exchanger clear and protects the manufacturer’s warranty.

New construction and renovation installs

Building or gutting a basement? Specifying tankless from the start is far cheaper than retrofitting later, because the gas and vent runs get planned into the build.

If a tankless issue turns out to be part of a broader plumbing concern, we handle that too. One company, one visit.

Is a Tankless Water Heater Right for Your Edmonton Home?

Your hot water demand is high or unpredictable. Households running back-to-back showers, a soaker tub, and laundry at the same time are the clearest case for tankless. A properly sized unit doesn’t have a reserve to run out of.
You want your mechanical room back. A tankless unit mounts on the wall and takes up roughly the footprint of a carry-on suitcase. In a finished basement or a tight utility room, that space is worth something.
You’re planning to stay in the home. Tankless costs more to install but typically lasts 15 to 20 years against 8 to 12 for a conventional tank, and uses less gas because it isn’t reheating stored water around the clock. The economics work best over a long horizon.
Your gas supply can support it. This is the deciding factor on many Edmonton retrofits. Older homes with a 3/4” gas line serving multiple appliances often need an upsized run or a meter upgrade. We check this before quoting, not after.
Edmonton’s cold incoming water is part of the calculation. Municipal water arrives near 4°C in winter, which means a tankless unit has a much bigger temperature rise to deliver than it would in a warmer climate. A unit sized off a manufacturer’s generic chart will underperform here in January. We size for winter conditions, not annual averages.
